Quality Badge Awarded for Outside Classroom
The Hampshire and Isle of
Wight Wildlife Trust (HIWWT)
are celebrating after being
awarded with a ‘Quality
Badge’ by the Council
for Learning Outside the
Classroom (www.lotc.org.
uk), giving confidence to
Local Authorities, schools
and parents. The LOtC
Manifesto believes “that
every young person should
experience the world
beyond the classroom as an
essential part of learning
and personal development,
whatever their age, ability
or circumstances”. On
the Island, HIWWT chiefly
delivers this through the
Isle of Wight Forest Schools
Project, available FREE
this year to West Wight
schools. School visits to
HIWWT Nature Reserves,
the coastal environment
and Forestry Commission
sites are also available. For

Riverfest 2011
Last May, some 4,000 people flocked
to the Riverfest event on Newport’s
historic Quay, making it the largest
community event in the county town
of the Isle of Wight. The fourth annual
Riverfest is again being organised by the
Footprint Trust as a celebration of river
and community life. There will be no
admission charge and many children’s
activities will be free. The date for your
diaries is Saturday May 21 2011 from 12
noon. [email protected]
