food Island Life - April/May 2011 Island Ales have a lot of bottle! Island Ales brewery has celebrated its first anniversary in style by putting three of its most popular cask beers into bottles. Wight Gold (4.0% abv), Yachtsmen’s Ale (4.2% abv) and Wight Knight (4.5% abv) have always been among Island Ales’ most popular brews. Managing director Steve Minshull said: “We thought it would be a good idea to make them available in bottles, and many people had also requested that we do it. Now customers can buy these beers in hotels, restaurants and even holiday camps who may not normally sell cask beers. “Hopefully it will target the tourist industry, who will take bottles home as souvenirs or presents. We are also producing a gift pack of all three of the new bottled ales.” New chef at Dark Horse Chris Woodridge has joined the team at the Dark Horse public house in High Street, Brading as the new head chef. Chris has recently moved to the Dark Horse after a spell as owner and head chef at Pavaroti’s Restaurant in Shanklin. Hayley Stevenson, the landlady of the Dark Horse is delighted to have Chris on board. She said: “We shall be introducing new dishes to our menu, specialising in daily fresh fish specials for the summer season, as well as continuing their steak evenings, which prove very popular with customers.” Hayley will also be bringing live music to the Dark Horse, so it should be a busy spring, summer and beyond at the popular Brading location. 138 Visit our new website - www.visitislandlife.com
