COUNTRYSIDE, WILDLIFE & FARMING
life
Nothing says it quite
like flowers
Winter isn’t really dull, it’s just that
it’s sandwiched between the fiery
colours of autumn and the brilliant
colours of spring!
It happens every year, some years being
better than others, but one thing you can be
sure of, is, that for the next couple of months,
the countryside, is going to be awash with the
dazzling displays of spring wild flowers.
We think about bluebells this time of year, but
there are other, just as impressive displays to be
found in woodlands and ancient grasslands.
‘Persil’ like whites, of the Wild Garlic, cover
woodland floors, akin to a crisp new carpet.
Just driving past one of these displays is enough
to make most people go ‘Wow’, but take a
walk through them and your nose goes into
overdrive!!!
Venture in a bit further and the more delicate
wood anemone, with tinges of pink, lay
scattered on the floor like snow flakes. If you
are lucky they could be mixed with the vivid
purple of common dog violet or the pastel
yellow of primroses.
It’s great when you stumble across the
unexpected, and one of these delights could be
a bank of cowsli 2
