COUNTRYSIDE, WILDLIFE & FARMING life Nothing says it quite like flowers Winter isn’t really dull, it’s just that it’s sandwiched between the fiery colours of autumn and the brilliant colours of spring! It happens every year, some years being better than others, but one thing you can be sure of, is, that for the next couple of months, the countryside, is going to be awash with the dazzling displays of spring wild flowers. We think about bluebells this time of year, but there are other, just as impressive displays to be found in woodlands and ancient grasslands. ‘Persil’ like whites, of the Wild Garlic, cover woodland floors, akin to a crisp new carpet. Just driving past one of these displays is enough to make most people go ‘Wow’, but take a walk through them and your nose goes into overdrive!!! Venture in a bit further and the more delicate wood anemone, with tinges of pink, lay scattered on the floor like snow flakes. If you are lucky they could be mixed with the vivid purple of common dog violet or the pastel yellow of primroses.
