The Island provides superb conditions
for surfing. There are no waves on the
northern beaches, but depending on the
weather conditions, most of the southern
beaches from Freshwater Bay, Compton,
Niton, Ventnor, Shanklin and Sandown
round to Whitecliff Bay will get waves.
The wide, sandy bay at Compton is
probably the most popular Island break,
and one of the safest. Winter and spring
swells can produce a
