The Editor There’s no denying these are difficult times. But what amazes me is your determination to succeed. Look at the success of our restaurateurs, how they’re coming up with ever new ways to entice the customers in. Look at our businesses, how their knowledge of the Island people means some are doing even 33 38 better than last year. There are so many creative people, in all walks of life, who enrich this island so much. People such as the young violinist we feature, or the artists at the Farringford, all of them determined to succeed. Then there are our fighters, like Councillor Anne, and the champions for our way of life, 74 101 32 56 Chitty Chitty Pong Pong: 90 Gardening The iconic car takes a sharp intake of breath when she goes from Dubai to India 80: Sally Charrett on cultivation for an Eco Island 82: Enjoy summer colour with Ursula Thompson 58 Keepin’ the jazz steamin’: 95 - 110 Equestrian Jazz Festival is hailed at the Steam Railway 61 Hedging his bets: Sir John Hobart was a farmer out of his depth, but, finds Jo Macaulay, is now the salt of the earth 64 Round the Horn: The Salter Brothers face some of their toughest challenges, says Lizzie Ward 66 Intriguing antiques: Philip Hoare is far from disgusted at Tunbridgware 67 Countryside News with Tony Ridd 68 - 69: Countryside News 70: Partridges 72: Changing face of the countryside 74: Hedgelaying Competition 77: Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust The Island's most loved magazine such as Sir John Hobart.
