in new home
The Orchard Cosmetic Skin Centre has moved to
gleaming new premises in the heart of Newport.
Dr Maire Rhatigan talks to Roz Whistance
(Island Life) about the reasons for the move, and
how it will benefit patients
RW: How will people find you?
MR: The Orchard Cosmetic Skin
Centre has retained its name
but is now located at St James’s
Clinic which is in Upper St James
Street opposite Holland & Barrett
and just a short walk from Marks
and Spencer
RW: Why are you moving from
The Orchard Hospital?
MR: The Orchard Hospital
is being redeveloped into a
nursing home which has made
it necessary for us to find a new
home for the clinic.
RW: Will you still have the
facilities to offer all the
treatments, now you are not in a
hospital environment?
MR: Absolutely, in fact because
we’ve got more space we’ve got
the potential to offer additional
treatments in the future. The
clinic will undergo the same
rigorous inspections by the
Health Care Commission as
were carried out at The Orchard
Hospital. We will continue
to provide a comprehensive
range of treatments which will
include laser and Intense Pulsed
Light for such problems as
excess body hair, pigmentation
and thread veins. All our
rejuvenating treatments will be
available as before and we are
also developing a minor surgery
procedures room.
RW: So, patient’s can now
have their treatments and
go shopping immediately
afterwards?
MR: Definitely, I always try to put
myself in the patient’s shoes and
know that it is very important to
feel confident to go out in public
immediately after treatment. So
at the clinic we make sure that
patients go out looking great.
We have a few tricks up our
sleeve to achieve this. One of
these is our fantastic mineral
make-up which can be put
on straight after treatment so
people always go out looking
better, even if they’ve had
something invasive done!
RW: And what other services are
at St James?
MR: As well as the Cosmetic Skin
Centre the St James Clinic has
the IOW Dental Studio where

patients can have general and
cosmetic dentistry. In addition
patients can avail of private
consultations with a plastic
surgeon and there are other
private medical services, such
as a well-man and well-woman
clinic and remedial massage
therapy being developed. It is
very exciting to be part of this
new aesthetic centre where
all the different specialists
can benefit from each other's
experience.
