EQUESTRIAN - Sponsored by Brickfields and Froghill Tack
Annie & Jamie Dawes and Caroline & Simon Yardley
grandstand, in 1930. It was
then reintroduced in 1992 and
Mike Thompson’s company
Sample Surveys, was one of the
original sponsors who enabled
the Scurry to begin. Then and
for many years since he has
ridden in the Grand National
though he has never managed
to win the trophy.
This year, the event is being
held slightly later, on Sunday
6th April 2008, in the hope
of avoiding the terrible rains
we experienced in March 2007
causing the cancellation of the
event last year. The venue, as
usual will be the old racetrack,
south of Ashey station, by
kind permission of Alan
Aylett. Once again, just as
they did during the Victorian
era, crowds can go to the
Scurry on the Isle of
Wight steam railway.
Harold George and
Barry Elliot will
build the course as
they have done every
year since 1992, and
the gates will open
at 10.30 for racing to
start by midday.
