Yarmouth Old
Gaffers Festival
May 30th, 31st
and June 1st
2008
This unique maritime festival
is now in its 12th year and provides a weekend of free entertainment for the whole family.
It has become one of the major
events on the Island’s busy
summer calendar and attracts
many thousands of locals and
visitors.
The three day event spreads
itself around the town,
quayside, harbour and The
Green with something to
interest everyone. The local
R.N.L.I. organises an Air
Sea Rescue demonstration
and allows viewing of the
Lifeboat that is moored
alongside the Quay.
In the Marquee on the
Quay there is non-stop live
entertainment featuring a
wide range of music from
steel bands, rock n’ roll
to swing, pop and shanty
singing. On Friday
and Saturday evenings
there will be a chance to
dance to these popular
sounds, but a ticket will
be required after 6pm.
In The Square there will
be colourful continental
market stalls selling goods
6
from ‘Around the World’
and street entertainers and
musicians will perform during
the day. St. James Church
will host a wonderful Flower
Festival.
The Big Boy’s Toys Field
( next to Primary School) is
popular for anyone who enjoys
looking at veteran, vintage and
classic vehicles and nearby,
for children, there is a mini
fairground, Punch and Judy,
Circus Workshop, Magician
and Ghost Story Tellers. If
it is Crafts that interest you,
then there will be numerous
local exhibitors displaying and
selling their wares in the Craft
Tent on The Green. There
will even be a fun dog
show!
