FOREWORD Yarmouth Old Gaffers Festival May 30th, 31st and June 1st 2008 This unique maritime festival is now in its 12th year and provides a weekend of free entertainment for the whole family. It has become one of the major events on the Island’s busy summer calendar and attracts many thousands of locals and visitors. The three day event spreads itself around the town, quayside, harbour and The Green with something to interest everyone. The local R.N.L.I. organises an Air Sea Rescue demonstration and allows viewing of the Lifeboat that is moored alongside the Quay. In the Marquee on the Quay there is non-stop live entertainment featuring a wide range of music from steel bands, rock n’ roll to swing, pop and shanty singing. On Friday and Saturday evenings there will be a chance to dance to these popular sounds, but a ticket will be required after 6pm. In The Square there will be colourful continental market stalls selling goods 6 from ‘Around the World’ and street entertainers and musicians will perform during the day. St. James Church will host a wonderful Flower Festival. The Big Boy’s Toys Field ( next to Primary School) is popular for anyone who enjoys looking at veteran, vintage and classic vehicles and nearby, for children, there is a mini fairground, Punch and Judy, Circus Workshop, Magician and Ghost Story Tellers. If it is Crafts that interest you, then there will be numerous local exhibitors displaying and selling their wares in the Craft Tent on The Green. There will even be a fun dog show! T
