life - FASHION - HEALTH - BEAUTY Private health care is only a call away. Now everyone can have beautiful Nails If you think you need private medical insurance to get treatment at the Island’s only private hospital you’d be mistaken. The Orchard Hospital in Fairlee Road, Newport is open to all with its fixed price surgery scheme for the uninsured. Any patient in need of surgery can ring the Orchard to discuss their needs and obtain a quotation. This will include the cost of the operation, consultants’ fees, drugs, dressings, prosthesis, Xrays, blood tests, physiotherapy, accommodation and meals. Managing Director Sue Burton explains how many people choose treatment at The Orchard for its sheer convenience. She says: “It appeals to business people and the self-employed. Anyone with a busy life really. Some people cannot afford to be away from work. They need to know what is wrong with them and get it treated as quickly as possible. “That’s something that is not always possible with the NHS where there can be considerable waiting periods between consultations, tests and surgery.” The outpatient department at The Orchard has six consultation rooms which are just a short hop from the X-ray department and physiotherapy rooms. And appointments can be coordinated with services such as blood tests. “This means patients aren’t having to walk miles across public areas of a hospital to get to different departments,” Sue adds. The hospital is also planning to start a credit scheme in the coming months where patients will be able to set up a payment plan to pay for their treatment. The Orchard also runs a Privilege 82 Scheme, which is another way of making both health screening and other treatments more affordable. For only £15 per month, payable by Standing Order, (subject to a sixmonth qualifying period) or for a one-off £150 yearly fee patients get a comprehensiveannualhealthscreen designed to pick up early signs of disease including diabetes, breast cancer and heart disease. Patien ts are also entitled to discounts on fixed price surgery. As an example, the total cost of a knee replacement could be reduced by around £540. The Privilege Scheme also includes discounts on out-patient diagnostic tests and treatments. Having to undergo a medical procedure can be worrying at the best of times and now with the problem of MRSA in many hospital wards it is perhaps even more so. But there’s good news from The Orchard here – the hospital has had no cases of MRSA. Sue, who comes from a nursing background herself, reassuringly adds: “We have a zero tolerance policy towards MRSA here. “Any patient who might be transferred here from another hospital will undergo tests to check for MRSA before they are admitted. “We have hand sanitisers in every room and staff are fully briefed on the importance of washing hands and how to wash them properly.” Beautiful nails-everybody wants them but not everyone can have them right? … WRONG! This is the 20th century! Nail extensions have come a long way since the 80’s. If you’ve ever had your nails done, you will have heard about acrylic - a powder and liquid system with a thick finish; a strong odour that is often temperamental and has been associated with yellowing and lifting, however, the industry has evolved. Gel is the talk of England. It not only takes half the time but also looks so much thinner and more natural. The Gel system is odourless and is popular because of its super bonding formula and continuous shine. Gel offers so much more variety that if you haven’t tried it, you simply have to! Permanent colour or French Gel that wont peel or crack and stay perfect for up to three weeks… it’s the next reason this system is so popular. Not only on artificial nails but on natural nails too. Gospel truth ladies, you can have Gel overlayed on to your natural nails in order to grow them and enhance them, not only your finger nails but also your toenails. Nail biters find this system more successful as they wear allot easier and last so much longer-some have even managed to grow their natural nails and kick the habit of nibbling altogether…proving there is no need to envy and wish for glamorous nails. At Nail Emporium, we specialize in all systems (Gel, Acrylic And Fibre) but the Gel has proved to be the most successful. We offer Extensions ; Overlays over natural nails ; nail art ; manicures for men and women, mini pedicures and a welcoming expert team that will guide you and talk you through all procedures and answer any questions over any uncertainty. In future issues of Island Life magazine, Nail Emporium will be bringing you the latest nail trends and advise with the seasons colours and looks.
