G.E. Banks Windows, simply old fashion service
G. E. Banks Windows Ltd.
prides itself on being a small,
personal and friendly firm.
The company has evolved
considerably since the days when
it was attached to the building firm
G. E. Banks Builders & Sons Ltd.,
mainly carrying out commercial
work.
While the firm still carries out
commercial work, in recent years it
has branched out into the domestic
market.
The company employs ten people
and offers a full repair service and
free quotations for the fitting of
UPVC, aluminium and wooden
windows as well as doors and
conservatories.
Husband and wife team Brian
and Annette Skelley bought the
business five years ago and in 2005
they moved premises from Shanklin
to their current base in Nicholson
Road, Ryde.
Brian, who is a carpenter and joiner
by trade, had previously been the
business manager on the windows
side of the old G.E. Banks Builders &
Sons Ltd.
He says: “The people who used to
own the company wanted to retire
and sell up and we decided to take
it on.
“It was a bit of a gamble but we are
passionate about the firm. It’s like
a baby to us. We want to nurture it
and watch it grow.”
The company has an advantage in
that it fabricates the majority of its
frames within its own workshop
and uses a local joinery shop for its
timber frames.
This means it can offer a fast and
efficient service to customers.
Brian explains: “We can turn
around within six weeks or sooner
as required.”
Brian and colleague Lee will go out
to visit clients in their own homes
to show them the products available
and supply them with brochures

He adds: “The customer will give
us their ideas and we will advise
accordingly.
“Between the clients and ourselves
we can design frames to fit the
purpose and the look they desire.
“Customers
are
welcome to visit our
workshop to see how
the windows and doors
are manufactured.
“Our
staff
have
had
manufacturing
experience in UPVC and
aluminium for the last
20 years and have built
up excellent relations
with our suppliers
Plastmo and Comar.”
G.E. Banks Windows
Ltd also supplies local
builders on new build
properties and are at
present in partnership
with Mountjoys on
some
commercial
projects.
