life - FOOD & DRINK Southern Co-operatives set to stock delicious Isle of Wight local produce A new range of glorious food and drink from some of the island’s very best local growers and producers is to be launched at the Southern Co-operative’s Isle of Wight stores. The Local Flavours range will celebrate the island’s finest local produce, offering a choice of homegrown and homemade goods sourced from Isle of Wight farms and manufacturers. Already launched at Southern Coop’s largest Freshwater and Cowes stores, a selection of the Local Flavours products will also be rolled out to the co-operative retailer’s 12 smaller island stores. “The Local Flavours range will offer mouth-watering food and drink but with a conscience,” said Jane Jordan, brand manager at Southern Co-op. “As a retailer we are very focused on our relationship with the community, and by stocking local goods we are actively supporting the area’s farmers and businesses - helping to protect island jobs and putting money back into the island’s economy. “We previously stocked some locally produced goods in a number of our Isle of Wight stores, but we have added lots more delicious items including vegetables, cheese and eggs, to our selection to create the Local Flavours range, which will be really visible in our stores as they will be displayed together where possible. The range will have prominent posters and stickers and will be clearly labelled to make it easy for customers to identify and find in store.” 106 Southern Co-op has more food stores on the island than any other retailer, most of which are located in local communities, therefore it is more of a natural fit to support these communities by sourcing products produced locally.
