Technical Diving
Co-founder Evan Tuohy is a certified and experienced technical diver. He is a certified IANTD advanced nitrox
open circuit and closed-circuit trimix rebreather diver. We can accompany you on your deep dives in Puerto Rico's
mesophotic coral ecosystems or other sites requiring technical diving.
Coral Coring Acoustic Tagging of Fish
The use of underwater hydraulic drills at mesophotic
depths allows us to collect geologic information regarding
coral paleoclimatology. Evan has experience assisting with
operating this equipment, handling coral cores and
planning the dive logistics for this type of project. Our project to monitor the movements of commercially
important fish introduced the first account of in-situ
acoustic tagging at depths using closed-circuit rebreathers.
Evan can perform the surgical procedure to implant fish
with the acoustic tag. He also has experience planning and
implementing a project of this "dive-intensive" magnitude.
Specimen Collection & Equipment Deployment
We are skilled in collecting specimens at deep sites using closed-circuit rebreathers. Specific
experience includes live collection of fish, corals and sponges. Additional work has utilized fish
anesthetics for capture. We also have experience deploying and retrieving specialized oceanographic
equipment like hydrophones, ADCPs and acoustic receivers.
