1 Looking Forward The strategy for 2015 is to consolidate and solidify growth of Food for Life and to drive a common vision amongst the emerging branches. This will firstly be done through expanding the present Food for Life website. The Food for Life web page is fully functional and allows full transparency and updates with pictures and narrations on all activities, at each of the branches. Given the growth nationally of its activities, the creation of a cloud service is envisaged for 2015, which will be an online portal for all branches to access, and share information, such as documents, statistical updates and uploads of specific articles. It is hoped that this will serve as a tool to streamline communication between branches and facilitate further growth. Secondly, a major focus looking forward would be to expand and re envision Food for Life Soweto and Kwa Mashu as part of our objective to effectively serve communities in these areas. A further five new kitchens are expected to be formalized in 2015. The most recent branches to be launched are Estcourt and Howick and devotees are enthused to commence with food distribution as soon as the compliance documents have been completed. Spotlight on Food For Life Midrand Since its inception in 2010, Food for Life Midrand has been growing from strength-to-strength, ensuring that it carries out the key objectives of the world’s largest vegetarian food relief programme. Every month 800 plates of fresh nutritious meals consisting of lentils, Basmati rice, green beans, cabbage, carrots, potatoes and peas are cooked and served to children at the New Jerusalem Children’s Home, the Tumelo Home for the Mentally Handicapped and the Thuthukani Centre– all located in Ivory Park, a township challenged by a lack of services, housing shortages, poverty and hunger. However, in light of these challenges, these three homes and its committed staff, continue to endeavor to serve the children to the best of their ability. Finally, the third and unarguably the most important endeavor to facilitate expansion and effective food distribution would be the construction of Food for Life Administrative Headquarters in Umgeni and the new Food for Life Durban Central site which would boast a fully kitted industrial kitchen, storage facility and community hall to enable its work and many social development programs. Smiles, laughter, love and good wholesome vegetarian meals – this is what Food for Life Midrand brings to the community in its mission to eradicate hunger. Anna Majapelo, founder of the New Jerusalem Children’s Home, which provides residential care to 80 orphaned and vulnerable children, explains that the children look forward to the Food for Life Midrand and the commitment from its volunteers, who not only feed the children bi-monthly, but ‘bring joy and laughter’ to the children through their association and
