ARGININE Arginine is another popular amino acid and a common ingredient in most pre-workouts. It is well known for in- creasing blood flow to muscles and en- hancing the pump that everyone in the gym is striving for, and this ability makes it excellent for overall health as well. More specifically, arginine is an amino acid that is converted into nitric oxide by nitric oxide synthase. This spe- cific metabolite then results in increased blood flow to the working muscle, which gives you an increased pump and mus- cle fullness. The only downside with arginine is that our body metabolizes it relatively quickly and a lot of what you digest is not fully utilized for the result we want, which is the pump. Nevertheless, in some clinical investigations, arginine supplementation has been demon- strated to increase blood flow.
