Czech, Finn, French and Italian students together, in Havlickuv Brod Gymnasium
Editorial
What is the Erasmus project good for? This question can be still heard all over public space. Some people
think that it's just a waste of money, while others think that its for European Union propaganda. Neither is
true. The exchange student program started in 1987 with a certain goal – to create a common European
identity, to create Europeans. To this day it can be considered as the biggest success of all European
programs. Students and later adult people from all around Europe can feel that they share common
problems, that they share bits of common culture and common destiny. Differences persist, but that's what
makes EU motto: unity in diversity. When people from four different countries converged on our small town
in the middle of Vysočina county they had the same goal. We wanted foreigners to come not as tourists but
as fellow Europeans, who can talk, laugh and work together. No one can say that we hadn't succeeded.
Through this eMag issue you can see that bonds were created and friendships were established. Our country
will be known from other perspectives. The Czech Republic is not just about Prague and its monuments. It's
about people who live everyday life and fulfill their mundane duties. Our guests could see that very easily.
We are not so different – we are Europeans.
