Kaz Hawkins featuring Sam York “ Don ’ t You Know ” Album Release – July 22 , 2017

“ I want listeners to hear every breath I make , feel the tears that came when I recorded certain songs , giggle when they hear me having fun with my vocal . The pressure was off for this album and I recorded it for me . That is what music is , a journey through emotions and I laid them all bare on this . Something happened when Sam & I entered the studio which is why I choose Sam . I trusted him and his talent . I also felt everyone I had ever loved and lost surround me in comfort to guide me through and for that I feel even more empowered as a woman and an artist .” ~ Kaz Hawkins
5 % of album sales are to be donated to Aware NI for Charity Single “ Don ’ t Slip Away ”.
“ Nendrum ” is made up of 81 vocal takes from Kaz . The name refers to a 10th Century Monastic site in Northern Ireland that Kaz visited during her mental illness . The melody is taken from a song she wrote after her mother ’ s death that is to be released on the next album .
All tracks are recorded live on 14th January 2017 at Millstone Music , Comber , Northern Ireland , except “ Nendrum ” and “ My Daughter My Reflection ”.
Piano and guitar are by Sam York . The drums on “ My Daughter My Reflection ” are provided by David Jamison
The spoken word on “ Don ’ t You Know ” is courtesy of Professor Meg Tyler of Boston University , who has worked with Kaz over the past few years . Kaz has given lectures and performed for BU Students , where she advocates using music as a mental health tool . Meg and Kaz are now dear friends .
“ Alabama Love ” is dedicated to the people of Muscle Shoals , who Kaz met on a promotional U . S . solo tour in 2016 . Kaz was inspired to write “ The River That Sings ” after watching the Muscle Shoals documentary . The song was written about Tom Hendrix ’ s wall in Alabama . Kaz met and sang the song in the prayer circle of the wall that Tom Hendrix built over 32 years to keep the memory of Te-Lah-Ney alive . Tom died shortly after Kaz ’ s visit and Kaz promised the family of Tom Hendrix she will “ never let the legend fade ” just like Tom ’ s book says . All recordings are with permission of the people of Muscle Shoals .
The album is produced by David Jamison ( Millstone Music ) and Co-Produced by Kaz Hawkins .
