FAIRVIEW UNION By The Fairy Rock Mother Kiki Plesha Only the strong survive. This is can be construed as both an anthem and a warning--even more so when you talk COUNTRY music. Some might refer to the current climate of Country as “competitive” or “saturated”…and some may even go so far as to say “brutal” and “cut-throat”. Heck, I’ve heard it said that Nashville is where “Country Dreams DIE”. And especially in a business that can sometimes be described as “one step forward, two steps back” (or in this case “TWO STEP”), well—let’s just say that tenacity creates traction. THE FAIRVIEW UNION are survivors. And they are blazing their OWN trail in Tennessee and kicking up a dust storm along the way. Their path, however, is cut through Coalfield and Knoxville--not Nashville. Oh, don’t get me wrong, they have nothing against Nashville…and whenever “Music City” is ready for THEM…they are happy to stop by with a big ole Fairview Union style “howdydoo”. I had the supreme pleasure to sit down with CHAD (lead vocals/guitar) and KELLI WILSON (lead vocals/keyboards)—the husband and wife duo that front this much-heralded and seriously ROCKIN’ Country band—which also includes MIKE BARNES (lead guitar), NEAL FOSTER (vocals/bass) and CHRIS POTOCIK (drums). The Wilson’s graciously granted this interview and took a pause from their busy schedule to answer a few questions for the readers of ION Indie Magazine. Kiki: Let’s start off by talking about the beginning. I know the “Kelli and Chad” story—please share it with our readers.
