“Stay With Me”—an over 7 minute track, has a nice gentle opening with pretty piano and violin sounds. Then it launches into
heavier guitar riffs and rich vocals. It has a lot of “change-ups” in pace…stops and starts…which create some interesting
rhythms. There are many different moods to the vocals--from high, soprano arias to male growls--a real study in contrast,
which lends itself well to this song. The song “Left Behind” teases the listener with the promise of a ballad style, only to again
build the tension with staccato instrumental strains, punctuating by the drumming. The band reveals its romantic side in the
final song “A World in Ruins”…culminating with passionate meaningful notes
LAPIS LAZULI plays wonderful music with great passionate melodies. They are a fine example of Symphonic Metal with echoes
of the Modern and the Progressive, with influxes of Death Metal. Every song is present for a purpose. Fans of female-fronted
Symphonic Metal will be in “Seventh Heaven” with Lapis Lazuli.
I sincerely recommend this album, especially for fans of WITHIN TEMPTATION, NIGHTWISH, EPICA and DELAIN. Songs are wellworked with melody, power and energy…by a band that demonstrates their passion for their music.
In closing, long after the final notes, I found myself recalling the melodies. I am in love with the sounds and find this album
quite addicting! I can get lost in the mesmerizing vocals of Cecilia and this band of Swedish Metallers.
