Call it a heavy homecoming of sorts, but SID FALCK is back. The drummer, best known for his work with New Jersey thrash warriors OVERKILL from 1987-92, heard on the band’s classic thrash masterpieces like “Horrorscope” and “The Years of Decay,” has emerged from a self-imposed hiatus to create a new breed of snarling old-school metal in an outfit called INFECTUS 13. Falck, who also spent time alongside ex-IRON MAIDEN vocalist PAUL DI’ANNO in BATTLEZONE, appearing on that band’s 1986 “Fighting Back” record, is taking a serious shot with INFECTUS 13. So far releasing two singles--a cover of the Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” and the original “Enemy at the Gate”, Falck’s INFECTUS 13 is a true effort spawned by the love of playing. The drummer’s had some health issues, which is why he decided upon this new effort as a “last chance” of sorts to get his new music out there; a true caution-to-the-wind endeavor. An eventual full-length release is under way from the band, to be titled “Last Rites”. Beyond that, it’s up to fate to see where the band may tread. Falck took some time to chat with ION about the impetus of the project, his thoughts behind the music, and what stokes the fire of his inner musician. ION: How long did you have the idea for INFECTUS 13, and when did you decide to actually go ahead with it and find the players involved to make it a reality? Falck: Well, it took a lot of “soul searching”--maybe four months before I decided that this was something that I wanted to get involved in again.
