As some of you may or may not know, I am a big fan of three piece bands, so with that said, I bring you THE
VALLEY RATS. I was at a show months ago and this band was on the line up. Actually, it was a “Battle of the
Bands”, so there must have been between eight to ten bands competing that night, but to me—even though
they did not win--the clear winner was The Valley Rats. So, when I heard they were playing the other night, I
was quick to go down there and catch their performance and of course, shoot the show. The Valley Rats are
an entertaining and real fun band to watch, plus the real highlight is that a brother and sister make up two
thirds of the band. Members are DANNY FLORES (bass guitar), JOSE (ALFREDO) CHUCA (guitar) and
ANASTASIA CHUCA (drums). Danny and Jose have been making music since 2003 and in 2007, and
Anastasia came into the band as the temporary drummer--and as fate would have it, she has been behind
the kit for the past 8 years. The type of music they play is a combination of Reggae, Ska, Punk and Blues.
Major influences are SUBLIME, STEVIE RAY VAUGHN, OPERATION IVY, MIKE PINTO, and of course, THE
MISFITS--which is really what got this band started! They have put out 1 demo and 2 CD's, to their
credit. They are currently writing new music and studio time is planned for this year. In closing, I just can't
say enough good things about The Valley Rats. They impressed me to no end…and if you were to ever take
in their show, believe me, you'll be saying the exact same thing!
