Story and Photography by Timothy Schumann
Now this is a band that I liked from the first time I saw
them almost a year ago. They are an El Paso staple
called SORRY ABOUT YOUR SISTER, and to be
honest, this band really stands out above the rest
simply because of the style of music they play. The
band consists of SHAWN HANKE on standup bass,
MARK CZACKI on guitar and ANDREW JASSO
on drums. They play a blend of Rockabilly, Blues and
Country and they have never let me down when it
comes to being thoroughly entertained…they are just
a real fun band to watch! Major influences for
these guys are HANK WILLIAMS JR. (the 3rd), THE
BLACK CROWES, THE REV. HORTON HEAT and BRIAN
SETZER. Now, they have been together three years,
and they play fifty-fifty, when it comes to originals vs.
covers. When asked, "Is this what you guys want to
do the rest of your lives?" The answer was, "No, we
do this just for fun, and we have a great time doing
it". You see, these guys have careers as firefighters
and teachers--as in music teachers--so this band is
just a very serious hobby, if you will. They have put out
one self-titled release about two years ago and
do have plans for another release at the end of this
year, as well as a Texas tour is in the works. They have
labelled this type of music "Tacobilly", probably
because we're down here on the border, but make no
mistake, this is "Old School Americana Type” Music!
Every time, I am called to cover this band, I really look
forward it. They are a breath of fresh air, in my
opinion, not like most bands here. Be ready for a little
drinkin', a little dancing and a whole lot of good
times with SORRY ABOUT YOUR SISTER.
