ION INDIE MAGAZINE June 2014, Volume 1 | Page 4

“I Have a Dream for a Zine!” I have been heard to utter those very words on more than one occasion. I view this launch of ION Indie Magazine as the fruition of a concept that developed through my own experiences as both a musician/vocalist and as a publicist and journalist. This unusual “marriage” of music and the written word found me utilizing these skills to assist my many musician friends—who would pose the question “How do I get the word out on my band?”—and I would feel compelled to provide them with promotions and marketing advice and actively work to lend a hand for their cause. And this is how my moniker-- The Fairy Rock Mother--came about! Ultimately, from this repetitive query by bands and my desire to support the artists, was born the idea of providing a magazine geared towards assisting those hard-working Indie artists--toiling to “make it” in this dog-eat-dog biz—by creating a publication that was both informative and supportive of the music scene. And what better way to provide helpful resources to musicians to advance their cause, than a collaborative effort between a magazine and radio stations—where artists could both be seen AND heard? So, here we are, with our inaugural edition of ION Indie Magazine…the June 2014 issue! Time flies when a fairy is having fun! I am so “over-the-moon” about our debut and am humbled by the messages of support I’ve received applauding our initiative’s effort. Thank you to all of the participating writers who contributed to the launch of the “maiden flight” of ION Indie Magazine--and to the readers that we hope, will find value in the articles--spotlighting some of the best of Indie music worldwide. My “Dream for a Zine” has become a waking reality. I dedicate this first issue to the writing team and staff of ION Indie Magazine—without whom, this would not be possible!
