When one thinks of Paris, France, a few things instantly come to mind: The Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, mimes performing in their black and white outfits wearing berets…but what doesn’t come to mind is great Rock and Roll with killer guitar rifts. So if you and your two friends all live in Paris and are in a band whose joint dream is to play world class, vintage Rock and Roll for as many people as possible, what do you do? Such was the dilemma for the French band WILD CHILD in 2010. Having released two albums in France and playing two French National tours just wasn’t enough for the trio, who were intent on sharing their music with the world. In 2013, a chance meeting with a woman they met in Paris led them all to obtain 3 month tourist visas and head to Dallas, TX. Soon after they met current manager HAVEN ESKIND, she offered up her home to them as not only a place to live, but also to record. Having learned of a Texas band that already held the name “Wild Child”, the trio changed their name and played their first U.S. gig at a dive bar in McKinney, TX, as THE WYLDZ. Their popularity immediately began to take off and in 2013, they were showcased at the revered “South by Southwest” Festival in Austin, TX, followed by opening for REO SPEEDWAGON at AUSTIN CITY LIMITS LIVE. The band’s lead singer and bassist MITCH BASSOUL attributes the band’s success in the United States to the country’s love of classic and vintage Rock from the 60’s and 70’s, such as HENDRIX, ZEPPELIN and FLOYD. Being labeled under a particular genre has been troubling though, with QUEEN OF THE STONE AGE’S JOSH HOMME once labeling The Wyldz as “stoner music”, to which Bassoul says “We don’t belong to this movement and don’t even know what it means. We play vintage Rock and Roll.” Jump ahead to summer of 2015, and it’s obvious that The Wyldz’s dream is coming true, having just released their second U.S. album, “Interstellar Troubadours” in May 2015 and playing venues throughout the country--such as the famed WHISKEY A GO GO in Los Angeles, to summer festival stages with the likes of ANTHRAX and THE SONS OF TEXAS. With the speed at which The Wyldz are making their mark in America, the old adage “Rock and Roll will never die” couldn’t be truer. The Wyldz are: Mitch Bassoul (Vocals/Bass), Alex Dhee (Lead Guitar) and Oliv Porrini (Drums). www.thewyldz.com • www.facebook.com/TheWyldz
