CULTURE MACHINE VIDEO CELEBRATING ‘WORLD MUSIC DAY’ STRIKES A CHORD GLOBALLY! By Kiki Plesha Music is undoubtedly a language of unification. And it was on June 21, 2014, (coincidentally, WORLD MUSIC DAY) that I was presented a video via a Facebook friend of mine (B. RAVI SHANKAR) from a very faraway place…India. Suddenly, the miles drifted away as a sweet young lady began to sing…and it was Ravi’s niece, 9-year-old ADITI IYER that stole my heart with the “joyful noise” that sprang from her lips. Although I was in the throes of production on this Issue of ION Indie Magazine, I felt compelled to make room for young Aditi and the video produced by CULTURE MACHINE for World Music Day. So with a howl of “Stop the presses!”--I paused to share this compelling story--and the video that made me this frantic Editor smile. In a world that grows increasingly smaller due to today’s technology, otherwise unknown street musicians and performance artists can be streamed into our homes and become a household name. World Music Day celebrates all forms of music globally and this digital age provides a forum for everyone everywhere to enjoy the sounds. And the video produced by Culture Machine is no exception! With over 65,000 views on YouTube in one day, Culture Machine’s “make-over” of the BOBBY MCFERRIN song “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” is resounding with the masses—in global proportions!
