Story by Timothy Schumann Photography by Michael Rushton/Rockshow Pics If you follow me to any extent, you'll see that most of the shows I shoot are done at one venue here in El Paso, and that is TRICKY FALLS at 209 El Paso St. in downtown El Paso, Texas. I've been wanting to do this review for some time now and after doing my research, I was quite surprised at the history of the building alone. This year marks the 100th anniversary of its existence, built in 1914 by HENRY C. TROST, as THE ALHAMBRA THEATER, which seated 809 people, but soon, it was changed to THE PALACE THEATER. The design, especially the outside, is Spanish Colonial with Moorish influences, which was something favored by Mr. Trost, and I believe the only one of this type in the downtown area. Now over the years, 209 El Paso St., has been many things as well as multiple name changes—besides The Palace, it also has been known as: THE PLAZA, THE CAPRI, REYN, CLUB BLU and CLUB XSCAPE…not to mention the different formats--a theater, a movie theater (for decades), dance/night club, Hip Hop and even a porn theater. In 2011 it was opened as TRICKY FALLS--which has a capacity of 1500 when the balcony is open--as a venue to live music and to bring national acts into El Paso, and I might add, it is the only venue that brings a steady stream of national touring acts into this city.
