DK: I think it will. The stuff we have done is edgier. It’s a lot different and it’s a lot more…I’m lookin’ for the word…It’s got a lot more punch to it. There’s a lot of things we’ve been trying to figure out how to say, and I think we figured out the right way to say it. JP: What do you feel separates or differentiates Within Reason from the pack? DK: I think our sound is a lot different. Maybe our work ethic, ya know, because we do everything on our own. JP: What about a favorite venue that you’ve played, some place that feels like home? DK: There’s a place in Destin, Florida, called CLUB LA, that we kinda cut our teeth at. We’ve played a lot of shows there with national acts. Another place we like playing is THE MACHINE SHOP in Flint, Michigan. That’s a place that I think every band that plays the rock ‘n’ roll circuit likes to play. JP: Michigan is a happening scene, for sure. DK: We’ve been up there a few times with a number of bands, and people up there rock harder than any place we’ve ever been, no matter what city we’ve been in. That’s happened in every city we’ve been in in Michigan. JP: If you had to give advice to any teenager getting into a band, what would it be? DK: Umm (long pause), don’t give up when it gets frustrating. Do your best to learn from other people’s mistakes. When we started getting shows with bigger bands, rather than taking the five minutes we have for face time with a band for a selfie, we would ask them “What’s the biggest mistake your band ever made when you were getting started?” I never had a band that wouldn’t tell me that answer. JP: What’s the biggest mistake you have made as a band? DK: That’s a really good question. This is the first time anybody’s ever asked me that. I’m trying to think of a really good answer for it…I’d say right around the 2009 time, I think we kinda thought that we were in a little bit better position than we were. I think we tried to do some things we just weren’t ready for. It didn’t really hurt us that bad, but it was a little mistake that could have turned into a giant mistake, in my eyes. Does that make sense? JP: It does. Do you feel like you’re ready now?
