so the band was born from this need to spend time together, ‘cause we’re really close. So when this thing came up--I have a long list of wonderful bass player friends--but it just felt like, well, the first person we have to call is dad. Our dad hasn’t been on the road in quite a long time. He still plays a lot but he hasn’t really traveled in quite some time. So it’s just “double whammy”…we gotta bring dad on board ‘cause of the family thing. That’s important to us. And because it would be fun as hell to go on tour with my dad for a while. LH: That was really cool. You guys looked like you were having a lot of fun. Since you live in Toronto and Dave lives in Winnipeg, how often do tour? It seems to me like you tour all the time. JL: Yeah, by the end of this year, we’ll be at over 250 days on the road. My partner Anna is going to school in Toronto, which is why we’re there, otherwise I never would have left Winnipeg. I really enjoy Toronto. It’s a really fun city to live in, but I’m a “home body”, and Winnipeg is a special place to me. I wouldn’t have left if it wasn’t for a good reason, and a wonderful woman is a good reason. The funny thing is, I see my brother and Winnipeg as much as when I had an address there. The only difference is I spend a little more time in Toronto. The joke is the only difference is now my bed is in Toronto. LH: How has social media changed things? Has it changed the way you promote shows? Has it changed how you interact with your fans? JL: Certainly. Compared to when I first started touring--which was around 2002-2003 when I first started hitting the road-the difference between then and now is massive…that in just over 10 years. It’s really cool because it gives you a direct line to your fans and to the people. Some people would appreciate it and some wouldn’t, but I kind of like it. It takes a certain degree of the barrier away. And you can include people in your daily life and those are always the social media posts that do the best…’cause when you’re like, “Hey, I’m hanging out with my girlfriend and doing this”, people react to
