ONCETHESUN is female-fronted hard rock/melodic modern metal band from Milwaukee, WI in the U.S. The
band was formed in 2004, and in 2007 OncetheSun released their first album, “Shadows”, and in 2008,
they released their EP, “Blank Stares and Broken Words”. In 2011, they released another album, “8 degrees
below”, and the newest work of these talented rockers called “The Ghost Inside Me”--was released in July,
2016.
“Intro--A Startling Revelation” is an appropriate start to herald this album--with its symphonic beauty! I
also appreciate the track “Running On Fumes” rhythmically—with its driving drums buoyed by the low tones
of the bass. The vocals were presented with almost a “folk” element…I could close my eyes and hear the
echoes of Artrosis in my mind...just magical and memorable, with an EnkElination atomosphere.
Another song worthy of mention is titled “Infinite Months”—a heavier offering, darker and moody. Again, I
am most impressed with the vocal stylings—which lingered in my mind long after the song had ended.
“Infinite Release (an Intermission)” announced the next track, “Release Me”--which starts in a soothing
way…that morphs into pure power! Another song that is easily recalled after the last note has ceased. I find
it to be a highlight of the album
“Breathless (an Interlude)” is stunning instrumentally…beckoning the listener into “Speechless”, a track
with heavier riffs a la Amaranthe—a perfect mix of low bass tones, modern metal guitars and exceptional
melodic singing. Incredible track!
Keys and heavier riffs open “Asphyxia”—with singing by Anna as rich as honey. It strikes an interesting
contrast with the influx of the screaming male vocals. The song “Chokehold” is the perfect round off to the
CD…leaving the listener wanting more.
I recommend the new album of OncetheSun—it had me from the first note! These American metallers have
big potential and they are one of great bands in the female metal band market. Every lover of heavier riffs
with gorgeous female vocals should add this to their music library…and by all means…catch their live show,
should they come to your city.
