They recently won the 2017 ARTVOICE BEST OF BUFFALO “Best Original Music Act”, an award they also won in
2016.
On behalf of ION INDIE MAGAZINE, I had the opportunity to sit down and ask a few questions of this popular
group that is making quite the name for themselves:
Interview:
LEE HOFFMAN/ION INDIE MAGAZINE: What is the
band's story?
DIRTY SMILE: The sordid details can be found on our
website bio. The TL;DR version is that we love the
music, the creative process, and we love the stage.
This band's story is really about the end user as we
are deeply thankful to each and every person that
gives us a click, a like, a download, a social media
shout out, and that steps foot in every single venue
that we are performing at. Without you, there is no
us, and no story worth telling.
LH: What are you working on right now?
DS: We are truly an independent, do-it-yourself
outfit, which means we have to feed the machine so
that we can afford these grand plans we all have.
Visuals need to accompany the audio nowadays, so
we put a lot of effort into not only recording, but
creating videos to promote the single. We'll be
playing to the masses and filling the war chest this
summer. In between the show schedule, we will be
recording 2 new songs, and those 2 songs we will
immediately make video singles for…we are hoping
for early fall of 2017. So keep an eye out! These
singles will eventually be compiled and released on
an EP sometime in early 2018. We are addicted to
live shows and the feeling of creating something
from nothing.
LH: What was the last lyric you wrote and why?
DS: Why not? I’ll share a lyric that I wrote that isn’t a
song yet, but I hope it will be. I wrote it in a moment
where I was pushing through some doubt and
anxiety and once again, managed to pull through to
the bright side:
