In my tenure as a photojournalist with this publication, I have covered a ton of shows and some of these shows, I didn't
particularly care for—in fact, truth be told—there were even a few times that I prayed for death during the first song. So needless
to say, after my “3 songs--no flash”, I am out the door. Well, that was certainly not the case this past May on Friday the 13th.
I cannot tell you why I reached out to the publicist for a band I had never heard of, but I am glad I did for more reasons than I
am allowed to share with you, rest assured, it was a magical evening!
APOLCALYPTICA has been around since 1993, with all members hailing from Helsinki, Finland, and all being graduates of the
Sibelius Academy. That is impressive in and of itself—but there is also the 8 albums in 19 years that they’ve produced with
such guest vocalists such as ADAM GONTIER of 3 DAYS GRACE, COREY TAYLOR of SLIPKNOT, GAVIN ROSSDALE of BUSH and
BRENT SMITH of SHINEDOWN.
I didn't know what to expect from these guys, as I never heard of them, but I can tell you this now—this was one of the best
shows I have never seen. It was just that spectacular to witness (and listen to) these three gentleman perform Metal (and let’s
not forget those METALLICA covers) on three cellos!
The HOUSE OF BLUES here in The French Quarter only holds 880 people. If the show didn't sellout, it sure came close, as the
place was packed!
Truth be told, I stayed for the entire show and enjoyed myself to the fullest as well as everyone around me. I can't say it enough-it was an epic evening! So now you know--there is no excuse not to see these guys live…and I hope you too have the most
wonderful evening of your life as I did!
