ION Indie Magazine’s ReverbNation Artist of the Month ANA FREE By JB Bridges Photography by Kelly Lee With an average reach of 1 million and 5,000 submissions per campaign, the partnership between ReverbNation and ION Indie Magazine has been a successful collaborative effort toward getting Independent artists in the media spotlight and their music heard by our readers and our broadcast partner listeners. I was especially excited to receive a submission from ANA FREE this month! I first heard this talented artist 6 or 7 years ago on YouTube singing an acapella version of "Use Somebody" by KINGS OF LEON, and, in my opinion, was one of the rare occasions when a cover was performed better than the original artist. I've been a fan ever since! Ana Free grew up expressing her thoughts in songs. In 2007, the British-Portuguese Pop artist had already garnered a large share of the new exploding media audience. Described by BILLBOARD MAGAZINE as a “YouTube Phenomenon”, with over 37 million video views and an armada of over 100K YouTube subscribers, Ana has toured extensively around the world. This artist’s songs have often occupied top positions on Portuguese radio charts and MTV, she has collaborated or performed with prominent artists such as DEBI NOVA, DJ DIEGO MIRANDA, CLAUS E VANESSA and NATIRUTS and embarked on projects with brands such as DISNEY, VOLKSWAGEN, GUITAR CENTER and SMASHBOX. Aside from swiftly continuing to build an impressive brand, Ana Free has opened stages from festivals to sold-out arenas for artists including SHAKIRA, COLBIE CAILLAT, JAMES MORRISON, SNOOP LION, LINKIN PARK, JOE BROOKS--and played a crowd of 15,000 at the AMERICAN AIRLINES ARENA in Miami. Currently living in Los Angeles, Ana has been performing live, composing for film and television and collaborating with talented YT creators, such as LONDON ELLIS, MARIE DIGBY, MARIA ZOUROUDIX and REBECCA ZAMOLO. Ana Free’s new EP is entitled “The Weight Of The Soul” and is set to be released later in 2015. The first single is called “Say It To Me” and is already available on iTunes.
