Music by LILY AMONG THORNS “Unspoken Unheard” LILY AMONG THORNS Interview and Photography by Lee Hoffman • www.buffalo24.com I talked to CHEYENNE CLEVELAND before I'd seen LILY AMONG THORNS. It was at a Metal show and she was sitting at the merch table. I asked about the band name. Her eyes lit up as she told me the origin is from the Bible. At that moment, I thought, "This should be interesting—here is this Christian girl performing at a Metal show!" Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of great Christian Metal bands, I'm just not used to running into them at local clubs. They hit the stage and exploded into the first song. They are the real deal, much better than I'd figured. Since that show, I've seen then more than a few times. I had the pleasure of photographing them February 21, 2015 at the EVENING STAR in Niagara Falls. We had a chance to talk: ION INDIE MAGAZINE: What is the story behind the band name? Cheyenne Cleveland (Vocals): Our band, LILY AMONG THORNS, came up with the name after we were previously called “Epiphany”. We came across the terminology in ancient writings from King Solomon, and in there he [King Solomon] talked about Christ the father God's beloved being referred to as a “Lily Among Thorns”. That just struck a chord with us. We really liked the meaning of it, representing hope in the midst of darkness—being a blossom that thrives in the midst of thorns. ION: What compelled you to form the band? Cheyenne: Well, when I was a teenager, probably in middle school, I started writing music, and I wanted to be a part of a band competition. So, I asked some of my friends to play in a band with me. We really just thought we were getting together to perform a song that I wrote, be in the competition and call it a day, I guess. But, after that we got so many good responses from the audience and from other people who were
