Yes it's new year and it's the time of year where we reflect on the previous 12 months and start to look at the changes that we want to make in the year ahead.

Whether you have made personal resolutions or want to make changes in your business, whether seeking a new role or promising yourself you will book that trip you always wanted, or changing structures or processes to enable performance improvements, make sure you do it with purpose and are very clear on the 'why'.

It can be easy to get caught up in the excitement of the new year and write an endless list of promises/resolutions of changes that you will make and then as time goes on the novelty wears off and you revert back to old habits or stop putting in the effort as the change becomes too difficult to implement.

This year, if you truly want to make a change, do it with purpose to make sure you succeed and follow these 5 steps to help you along the way;

1 - Know why you want to make the change Don't just commit to change if you aren't clear on why you want to do it. If it's quitting smoking, why? If it's restructuring your team, why? What difference will these changes make to you and how important are they? Don't get wrapped up in making change for the sake of change, buy in and success will be limited if you do and this is often when we start to feel like failures.

2 - Be clear on your Strategy When you are clear on why you want to make the change, have a plan, create a strategy and stick to it. We sometimes create plans without really knowing what the end goal should be and this is when we fail. Questions

like 'how will this help me achieve the change?' can be useful to help you know if you are on the right track.

3 - Have a strong Mindset When looking to make changes you may have to overcome fears, doubts, limiting beliefs or insecurities that could hold you back. The voices in your head that question everything or put obstacles in your way need to be silenced if you are to succeed. Keep your why at the front of your mind and keep asking the questions that ensure you are on track with your strategy and you will be amazed at how much more you can achieve.

4 - Fill your Toolbox Identify the skills, strengths, people and other resources that you have around you or that you need to accrue more of to help you succeed. Ask for help and support when needed and fill your toolbox with everything you need to help you be a success. You don't have to go it alone.
