Invenio: Coaching and Mentoring April 2016 - Growth - Page 24

I remember the moment I made the decision to leave my marriage. As much as I was fully aware that I was going to hurt someone, I also knew that I was being crushed!

The next few weeks were scary, worrying, but freeing. I spent a lot of time quietly capturing my inner thoughts, my fears, and my dreams. I allowed my inner thoughts to talk to me. I asked myself open coaching questions like ‘if money was no object what would you do with your life?’ and ‘if I could live anywhere in the world, where would I select to live?’ and ‘if I did not have to work, what would I do with my time’? I put each of these questions and more at the top of blank pages in my journal and captured my thoughts as they came. I didn’t query them. I didn’t question them. I just wrote down my thoughts.

I went back to my meditation beach and spent time going through what I had written down. It was fascinating. As I read my thoughts, my intuitions, my worries, my concerns, my fears, my aspirations, and my dreams; I realised that things I had wanted to do with my life I had stopped because I had listened to the noise of the world. I had stopped a job I loved because of the noise of the world. I had changed my career again because of the noise of the world. But with all this noise I realise I had stopped living my own life many years before.

So how do you grow from your own dreams? It’s simple – you become very honest and open with yourself. You stop finding excuses. You stop telling yourself everything is OK. How do you do that? One step at a time. There is a fabulous quote by Confucius – ‘it does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you do not stop.’ Get on that ladder and take the first step. Become aware of what you actually want from your life. Admit your dreams. Acknowledge your aspirations. Growth comes from within. Growth happens when you believe in your own dreams. Once you know what you want, accept that the only person who can make the change is you! Accept that your growth will come from following your own dreams and follow Tony Robbins advice: set your goal and turn the invisible dream into the visible reality.

Now take the first step!

Living the life of your dreams is a journey of self-discovery and achievement!
