“Mahogany and African woods are greatly preferred with burls and highly figured pieces frequently used for accents on walls and on furniture.” Douglas Richey Photo courtesy of Burger Boats. Richey concurs that the wood trends are diverse, detailed, and ever popular for discerning clientele. Typically, Richey uses woods in natural finishes – not stained – applying a clear finish for a luminescent effect. Mahogany and African woods are greatly preferred with burls and highly figured pieces frequently used for accents on walls and on furniture. The special species trends Richey is seeing include the use of African cherry, also known as makore. Makore has a fine to medium texture, generally straight grain, and is very lustrous. With this species, you’ll also find an attractive figure which adds another design element to these yachts. Clients often select lighter woods like maple, ash, and anegre for the cruise area below, as there is less natural light in that space. Brookside Veneers Ltd.
