As it weathers it starts to turn a silver/grey, which also looks great.” JIM HENRY were spec’d for one in 10 projects; now it’s seven in 10. “We buy all our lumber through Chuck Dean at Dean Hardwoods. We keep them informed as projects appear on our radar screen, and they go out of their way to make sure we have what we need. We love working with the cumarú we get from them because the yields are so high, 95 to 97 percent. We only have to order plus three percent, whereas with pine we have to order an extra 10 percent. “We like working with Sound Marine,” says Henry. “They provide a very nice prefab product and installation goes smoothly. They’ve got a lot of efficiency based on the equipment they use, so you save on labor. The bottom line is, the quality of their services is very high. “The cumarú is absolutely beautiful when it’s installed. As it weathers it starts to turn a silver/grey, which also looks great. And you don’t get the splintering or cupping you get with other species. Everybody involved liked it so much, we decided to use cumarú for decking at our new Shoals Club.” IW 44 IMPORTED WOOD
