“The tropical wood business here was always centered
around mahoganies,” confirms Herga. “The architectural mar-
kets have always gravitated toward species of Mahogany.”
“People use imported woods for architectural
applications because it creates warmth, depth and
dimension whether it’s used in modern or more
traditional designs,” says McIlvain. “It gives you grain and
texture and character that you can put into any kind of
structure, which I think is its true beauty.”
ONE WORLD MARKET
“As the world becomes more developed and information
makes offers across the globe more transparent, there are
many sources of forest products that are available for a
whole spectrum of applications,” says Paul Senior of Patriot
Timber Products Int’l.
“This allows our customer to be more competitive in
their market. That’s the essence of what our role as an
importer is – to find products that allow our customers to
be more competitive in their markets by either lowering the
cost of the product they’re manufacturing, or if they’re a
reseller to be more competitive with our products.”
