GORGIOUS...AMAZING...PASSIONATE..."Romeo and Juliet" in London

I got the privilege to see Romeo and Juliet performed on a stage in England. I saw it at the Royal Shakespeare Company in London, England. The theatre was absolutely gorgeous and with the most amazing acoustics.. Everything seemed to flow so smoothly that sometimes I forgot that I was not in Verona itself. The way they set up the lighting, sound, and stage almost created the atmosphere that you were living in Shakespeare’s time. Although technology has come a long way since then, the crew used it in such a way that added and did not take away from what Shakespeare tries to get across the audience. The costumes were superb! I have not seen such fine work in my entire life.

Romeo, played by Matthew McNulty, had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand. He pin pointed that character so well. The passion he portrayed for Juliet when he thought she was dead was phenomenal. Also, McNulty had amazing chemistry with Juliet, played by Jessica Brown Findlay. She did an amazing job as well. She played the young, caring, sweet girl very well. Findlay also did an amazing job of drawing the crowd’s attention to her every feeling. When she laughed we laughed and when she cried we cried. McNulty and Findlay created such passion in the death scene that it turned out to be the best scene of the show. Another great actor was Benedict Cumberbatch who played Benvolio. He really made Benvolio look so wise and smart that you wanted to ask him for advice after the performance. Other actors that made the show great were Hugh Bonneville, playing Capulet, and Brendan Coyle, playing Montague. Alison Steadman played the nurse and brought laughter almost every time she entered the stage. All in all the play had no weak spots, it kept everyone’s attention, and I would go back and see it at least ten times more if I could.
