e have featured From Here 2 Timbucktu in a
previous issue, in fact, you can read it within
Issue 33 or just click here to read it, but now Guy
Lankester is reaching out to you all for help. From Here 2
Timbuktu is, for the next few months, the Return 2 Timbuktu
with groups of Tuareg refugees from the crisis in Mali, I will
let Guy explain.

“I am on route to Mali in a 1957
Bedford truck called Betsy. She
has caused me many problems
which you can read about on my
blog..
I am crossing the Sahara to pick
up Radwan Ag Ayouba, a very old,
important and respected Tuareg
chief who wants to go home...
From Here 2 Timbuktu has funded
the project and this journey and
will be funding the first return of
Radwan and his family. We have
no outside support.
Once Radwan has returned I
will be lobbying UNHCR and the
UN mission in Mali (MINUSMA)
to bring forwards their plans for

supporting the refugees to return,
but if I can raise funds privately I
can continue to provide Betsy to
transport 50 refugees at a time
without need of the UN to help.
It costs me about €20 a head to
transport people home. It costs
about €30 and €100 for a sheep.
The more I can raise, the more
people I can take home and the
more animals we can buy to
provide people with milk and meat
on the journey and to sustain
families once they have returned.
