Ingredients:
750ml light and fruity red wine
250ml port
2 cinnamon sticks
12 whole cloves
2 star anise
2 lemons (quartered, squeezed but keep
the fruit)
3 oranges (quartered, squeezed but keep
the fruit)
100g soft muscovado sugar
Actually making it:
In a pan, add the juice of the citrus (keep
the fruit), sugar, cinnamon, cloves, and a
little of the red wine. Keep the heat quite
high while stirring to create a syrup. Once
the syrup is thick reduce the heat, add the
rest of the wine, the port, the citrus fruit, star
anise. Let the mulled wine simmer for 5 mins
until it is nicely warm.
If you’re feeling adventurous
Add blackberries, dried cranberries and
grated nutmeg and use a peaty single malt
whisky instead of the port! Scrumptious.x
