After 5 months in the pool, 10
kids graduated into the first
running Surf Project. Today
we work with children from 3
different local schools. New
this year is the opening of the
“Surfboard Library” working
with local parents and schools
to reward the kids with Library
“chips” for good
behavior and grades. The kids
are now cashing in their chips
for extra classes and board
rentals. The program has been
possible
through
voluntary
efforts of Betty staff members,
tourist
volunteers,
local
volunteer parents and plenty
of pizza donations from the Surf
Shak.
We run a monthly Kid’s Surf
Day to celebrate and share
and grow the beautiful world
of surf with those who might
never have an opportunity to
be a part of surf today and
economic potential of the
future.
