What is
Codex Alimentarius?

C

odex Alimentarius – Latin for ‘food code’ – was
founded in 1963 as a response to the growing global
food trade. In 2002, an independent commission
looked at Codex and what it was achieving and
recommended it be disbanded, as the global food trade
had grown so much in those 40 years, it had expanded
beyond the capabilities of the original Codex mandate,
and become unwieldy. But instead what happened is the
major corporations muscled in and carried on with their
own route for Codex.
