So, although the groups of employees chosen for our questionnaire do not reflect exactly those chosen by INSEE, we can claim that our sample is very broadly representative of large French companies. These companies are, moreover, very heavily internationalized. To the question “What proportion of the total staff of your company are located outside of France?”, we obtained the result presented in the diagram below. So, 55.7% (N=39) of the companies questioned have over half their staff located outside of France whereas those with no presence outside of the country are only a very small proportion of the sample. This observation seems central to us as our argument is that one of the prime causes of the evolution we are describing lies in just this deterioration in the operating conditions of the international business of these companies. 104
