Tembec appoints Pierre Gignac to its board of directors

Tembec has appointed Pierre Gignac to the Board of Directors of the Company . Mr . Gignac joins Tembec ’ s Board with broad international experience and expertise in Enterprise Risk Management , Corporate Governance , Corporate Social
Responsibility , and Finance .
Gignac served as the Senior Vice-President of Enterprise Risk Management and Chief Risk Officer at Export Development Canada (“ EDC ”), as Acting President and Acting CEO of EDC from June 3 , 2013 to February 2014 and in a variety
of senior roles at EDC from the time he first joined in 1999 . EDC , a Crown corporation , is Canada ’ s export credit agency , providing financing and insurance solutions locally and around the world to help Canadian companies of any size respond to international business
opportunities .
He will assume the seat of Mr . Michel Dumas who remains as Executive Vice President , Finance and CFO of the company .

EACOM installs a new Autolog lumber grading system at its Elk Lake sawmill

EACOM has completed the installation of a new lumber grading system in the Elk Lake planermill in Canada . The equipment was manufactured by
Autolog , Inc , a Quebec company and features the latest technology in lumber grading . With this recent project , the replacement of the two sawing lines and edger , as well as the reconfiguration of the coproducts handling system , EACOM has invested over $ 13 million into the Elk Lake Sawmill since 2012 .

Potlatch Corporation reports Q4 net income of $ 14.4 million

Potlatch Corporation reported net income of $ 14.4 million on revenues of $ 155.7 million for the quarter ended December 31 , 2016 .
This compares to net income of $ 3.5 million on revenues of $ 138 million in the Q4 2015 .
Net income for the full year of 2016 was $ 10.9 million on revenues of $ 599.1 million . Excluding the after-tax loss of $ 36.7 million on the previously announced sale of
172,000 acres in central Idaho , 2016 net income was $ 47.6 million . Net income was $ 31.7 million on revenues of $ 575.3 million in 2015 .
“ Strong performance by each of our three businesses and improved lumber prices resulted in solid earnings this year ,” said Mike Covey , chairman and CEO . “ Our mills continue to run well and we achieved new quarterly production records in the third and fourth
quarters . Resource successfully managed through challenging weather conditions to achieve our planned harvest volume for the year .
Real Estate continues to identify opportunities to drive value and closed a series of attractive conservation sales during 2016 . Turning to the balance sheet , we also reduced net debt by $ 125 million this year , increasing our
financial flexibility , and returned $ 67 million to shareholders in the form of dividends and share repurchases ,” stated Mr . Covey .

Forest Products Expo covers all the bases

Soon , the wood industry will gather in Atlanta for Expo 2017 – the 34th Forest Products Machinery & Equipment Exposition – sponsored by the Southern Forest Products Association ( SFPA ). Over the course of three days , June 14-16 , those working in lumber manufacturing , forestry and related processes can inspect the latest machinery and technology for virtually all segments of their industry , serving both softwood and hardwood operations .
“ Much of the sawmill equipment we display is interchangeable for either hardwood or softwood manufacturing ,” comments Tony
Stringer , president of Stringer Industries . “ Expo is not just a pine show – this year we ’ ll display machinery that ’ s sold to a hardwood stave mill ,” he adds .
“ Nearly 30 % of the Expo 2017 floor plan features equipment for hardwood operations ,” notes exposition director Eric Gee . Beyond lumber manufacturing and engineering services , exhibitors include the biomass , pallet fabrication , material handling , treating and engineered wood segments of the industry .
Sponsored and conducted by SFPA every two years since 1950 , this event has traditionally included many of the biggest names in the business , attracting key representatives from the nation ’ s largest wood products manufacturers .
