EDGERS – EWD All centring rollers and several pressure rollers are driven in order to accelerate the board to a feed speed of up to 420 m/min The system can process boards with lengths ranging from 3.7 to 6.3 m. “The sawing height is between 16 and 55 mm, whereby Murray’s main size is 44 mm,” explains Thomas Lang from EWD. He manages the project at Murray Timber together with Project Manager Christopher Wolf. The unedged board width ranges from 120 to 550 mm. After separation, the boards can be turned on the manipulation table, cross-cutted or rejected via a sorting flap, on demand. The boards are then transported laterally through the pre-scanning system. This system determines a preliminary board shape and open face, in order to position the board optimally at the infeed table. LUMBER PROCESSING Singulation and manipulation area in front of Ireland’s first EWD optimizing edger system at Murray Timber in Ballon Murray Timber Group Murray Timber Group is a family- run business established in 1977. Since its foundation the group has grown to become one of the largest, most progressive and flexible sawmills in Ireland. Operations are spread across two production facilities in Ballygar County Galway, and Ballon in County Carlow. With world class processing facilities capable of processing in excess of 1,000,000M3 of logs annually, Murray Timber has the capacity to ensure that forest owners always get the best price A B The boards come from the sawing line from the right, these can be trimmed back (A) or poor quality ones can be rejected via the tipple (B) for their timber. Their plants are ideally located to meet domestic and export demand. All their construction timber is kiln-dried and graded in accordance with NSAI standards to ensure adherence to specified moisture content regulation. This is achieved by using state-of-the-art drying techniques. Timber is then regularised on the planing line and graded to ensure it is of the highest quality to meet our customers requirements.
