Opticom releases CC05 series camera for continuous dry kilns

Opticom Technologies continually researches the development of new products with new technologies . In response to industry requests for video inspection solution for continuous dry kilns ( CDKs ), Opticom is pleased to announce the release of the new CC05 Series “ Kiln ” camera . The ability to install cameras inside CDKs will provide mill operators with constant remote inspection of the kiln interior .

According to a 2014 report by Richmond , Virginia based Continental Underwriters , CDK technology offers many benefits to operators including reduced energy costs , reduced climate emissions and increased efficiency . But CDK technology is also highly combustible and flammable and can become a source for significant fire . As such mill operators must conduct regular , frequent inspections of the kiln and auxiliary equipment for both fire prevention and maintenance .
CDKs present a challenging environment for the installation of video cameras . A number of volatile organic compounds ( VOC ’ s ) are released from the wood during the drying process . These include methanol , phenols and formaldehyde . Certain VOC ’ s are highly corrosive , making standard metal camera housings prone to pitting and accelerating metal fatigue during prolonged exposure . Even stainless steel can break down under such conditions .
Opticoms ’ challenge was to find a material that could stand
up to constant exposure to these VOCs . The newly developed CC05 Series camera features a uniquely designed housing made from Acetal TM , a high strength plastic compound that has unique corrosion resistance properties to certain chemicals . Acetal is a thermoplastic polymer that provides high tensile strength , creep resistance and toughness . It is used in the manufacture of precision parts requiring high stiffness , low friction and excellent dimensional stability .
AcetalTM has high abrasion resistance , high heat resistance , good electrical and dielectric properties , and low water absorption . A tough polyurethane jacketed cable assembly is sealed directly to Acetal TM to ensure no part of the camera assembly will fail due to VOC exposure .
The CC05 Series cameras incorporate the latest HD-TVI technology , a high definition version of analog video that delivers 1080P resolution . With analog video technology soon to be phased out , HD-TVI cameras are simple to integrate into existing analog systems , transmitting seamlessly over both coaxial and ethernet cable . This new technology allows customers to

migrate to high definition video without having to rewire or re-learn video transmission . Additionally , HD-TVI is capable of supporting longer cable runs than other HD Analog formats – up to 1600 ’ on RG59 and 700 ’ on CAT5 . It also transmits video with ZERO latency , and offers significant compatibility advantages .

EXPANDED FOR 2017 !

Forest Products Expo approaches sellout

As of May 11 , 2017 and with only two exhibit spots remaining , Southern Forest Products Association ’ s ( SFPA ) 34th Forest Products Machinery & Equipment Exposition – Expo 2017 – is virtually a sellout . The three-day event will fill Building A , Exhibit Halls A2 & A3 of the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta , June 14-16 .

“ A late surge in exhibit space sales has filled the hall with more than 170 exhibitors , ready to showcase the latest
machinery and technology ,” noted exposition director Eric Gee . “ Among exhibitors , we are proud to welcome 29 first-time exhibitors to the show floor , including companies that have not participated in the last 10 years ,” he added .
Users of mobile devices can download the new FOREST EXPO app for Expo 2017 . The app provides full coverage of the event ’ s exhibitors , the floor plan , special events during the show , with links to social media . It ’ s
available for Android and iPhones .
Sponsored and conducted by SFPA every two years since 1950 , this event has traditionally included many of the biggest names in the business displaying everything from sawmill machinery
to materials handling equipment , attracting key representatives from the nation ’ s largest wood products manufacturers .
