T
he combination of Stenner
multihead horizontal resaw
lines with single or twin
vertical machines continues to
grow as sawmills identify the
benefits of producing finished
products ‘off line’ from the
main sawmill, according to the
manufacturer.
“The lines offer complete
flexibility with the ability to cut
‘bespoke’ sizes without interfering
with the production efficiency of
the main line,” says Stenner Sales
Director Fred Harding.
“If you add the benefits of
improved recovery, increased line
speed because of a reduction in
cuts on the main line and more
efficient use of bin space you can
easily see the financial justification
of such an investment.”
Such lines have been recently
installed in England, Scotland,
Wales and Ireland, with a
combination of a single head
MHS10 horizontal followed by a
line of 10 MHS10 horizontals also
recently installed in Poland.

of this type has been supplied to
Murray Timber Group in Ireland,
which purchased a five-in-line
MHS10 with an ST10F Centre
cutting single resaw at the back.
Three of the MHS10s can tilt for the
production of feather-edge boards
(weatherboards) and the ST10F
saw unit can tilt to 45° to allow the
production of arris rail and cant
rail.
“The driver behind the project
was the ability to produce a full
range of sawn material very, very
efficiently,” says MTG Production
Director John Murray. “We have
also invested in a handling system,
which allows us the capitalise
on the speed capability of the
Stenners whilst minimising labour
input.”
At the 2017 Ligna, a contract
to supply two twin centre-cutting
resaws was agreed with Estonian
company Rait AS. This agreement
was based on Rait having a good
experience with a Stenner twin
supplied in 2003.
