Opening Reception of UAE Consulate in Houston
Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba and Consul General Saeed Mubarak Al Mu-
hairi, in collaboration with University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center,
celebrated the opening of UAE Consulate in Houston. The ceremony was
held at the Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Building, MD Anderson
Cancer Center.
In his recent visit, Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba met with Houston Mayor
Sylvester Turner and spoke about his support on helping the city rebuild after
Hurricane Harvey, “We are committed to helping Houston recover and re-
build after Hurricane Harvey … we want to support our friends in the ways
they need it most, and today’s discussions will ensure we do just that.”
United Arab Emirates (UAE) presented $10 million grant to help in the relief
and recovery of Texas after the destructive impact of Hurricane Harvey. This
is in addition to the largest single contribution of $150 million grant in 2011.
The funds made possible by The Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan Build-
ing for Personalized Cancer Care, The Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan
Institute for Personalized Cancer Therapy and The Sheikh Ahmed Bin Zayed
Al Nahyan Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research.
Consul General Al Muhairi further noted, “The UAE has deep and strong ties
in this community ... the Consulate in Houston is a testament to our commit-
ment to Houston and the local community.”
