iF: How many counties are in
your jurisdiction and are there
district offices in each?
Senator Miles: “I’ve got two
counties, Fort Bend and Harris
County, some included areas are:
Midtown, Downtown, 3rd Ward, 5th
Ward — which encompasses Kash-
mere Gardens, Medical Center — we
go all the way southbound [to] Fres-
no and Pearland to [the] north side
of town. When it’s all over, we’ll have
three offices. The offices will be run
by the people of that community. I
think it’s important and crucial that
the voices are heard from within and
the work is done from within because
no one can know the community
better than from the people within
that community. We have a small
portion of Alief, constituent services
will be done and available out here at
the Fort Bend office. If you look at
the map you can see where our main
office is. It’s going to be a close one,
it’s not two or three, it’s in one Sen-
ate District 13. My staff and I will
meet with you all out there to share
ideas and concepts on how we can
better the environment of which we
all live in.”
He asked me why I wondered about
Alief and if it is where I live. I said
it is where our International Focus
offices are currently at the Interna-
tional Trade Center. Congressman
Al Green has an office there as well
I said. “He has a bigger budget than
us, too.” the Senator added.
iF: Lastly, how do you plan to
serve the many vast international
communities in Fort Bend County?
Senator Miles: “As a State Sena-
tor, I have to be concerned about
the citizens of the state of Texas. If I
can find better resources for my ser-
vices of people from another state or
