Creative Minds at the Vault, April 29th
Written by Anita Long
From the first step into VAULT Houston, there was excitement and energy in
the air suggesting something phenomenal was about to be witnessed. “Cre-
ative Minds at VAULT: Fundraiser and Performance benefiting Dance. Art
Project Japan” was mesmerizing and inspirational while taking your breath
away simultaneously.
This one-of-a-kind unique event showcased the dancers from Creative
Minds Collaborative, Houston Ballet, and VAULT in six mind blowing per-
formances. As the lights dimmed and the dancers took the stage to begin the
first performance, excerpt from “Thread”, a blanket of quietness covered the
crowd in anticipation. With grace and poise, each step captivated the audience
that wanted to see more.
Shu Kinouchi next performed “Last Time I tried”, a piece he created for
this occasion. The solo was both artistic and beautiful, with his creature-like
movements transforming into grace once airborne. Jacqueline Boe and Siri
Ell performed “Free Will” very passionately but elegantly. The “Wall Piece”
choreographed by Amy Ell was nothing that I had ever seen before. With
movement on the stage and eloquently danced maneuvers off a wall, it’s an
indescribable piece of new dance art.
